World Beat Cafe      |    In November, 2001 - we started a regular Thursday night gig at an African restaurant in Austin, TX called the World Beat Cafe (600 W. MLK Blvd. @ Nueces). Each week is different musically, but the surroundings are comfortably familiar. A mural depicting African masks lines the wall that serves as the backdrop to our "stage" (which is actually the floor of the restaurant). Lawrence (the owner) is from Nigeria, and he's been great to work with. In fact, the whole staff of the World Beat is great. Then there's the food, from Ethiopia, Nigeria, and the Caribbean. Spicy and complex flavors cross your palette - we can only hope our music approximates the variety of tastes in Lawrence's cuisine. We've played a lot of songs for the first time at the WBC, and our set list continues to grow. We hope to see you down there.
